MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of ASHGOG is to present our Lord Jesus Christ in faith and actions by improving the living conditions of the underprivileged and disadvantaged.
Our vision is to assist the residents of La Gonave Island to live in dignity and hope through providing nutrition, clean water, financial support for medical care, safe housing, and education. We believe that this support will enable the community to thrive in a sustainable manner. And to support the poor, especially the disabled those struggling to survive is the purest form of respect for all human rights.

A BRIEF HISTORY
ASHOG MINISTRIES is a non-denominational Evangelical Christian Organization that provides basic services to needy children, disabled and elderly Haitians across La Gonave island. La Gonave is one of the poorest and most Forgotten Regions of Haiti.
ASHOG MINISTRIES also promotes youth mentorship through two main ways: visiting them in hospitals and at their homes. We prioritize nurturing spiritual growth and empowerment to those who have lost their hope, and also aid in constructing healthy social interactions within their community.
About La Gonave Island
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. La Gonave (or Ile de la Gonave) Island lies off the west coast of Haiti, a 45 minutes boat ride from the mainland. The island of La Gonave is 60 km long and 15 km wide. The island is mostly barren and hilly with the highest point reaching 2,552 ft. The island has approximately 100,000 – 120,000 residents. Haiti has a very troubled history and the last few decades have resulted in the deforestation of La Gonave Island, loss of vegetation and severe soil erosion. Now the soil cannot hold the rain water and wells are few and far between. Hunger is common with most people having only one meal a day. There are schools on the island but most people cannot afford to send their children there, unemployment is extremely high. There is little industry on the island, some farming, some fishing but most people survive on very little. There is a hospital but again, people rarely have the money to pay for medical care
Located in La Gonave Island and registered under the number :00040, ASHOG was formed in 1996 after several disastrous events occurred on the island. Among some of these events are: The shipwreck Okelele motorboat, Fierté Gondávienne boat, Kris Vivan sailboat; and several other accidents. Many children lost their mothers and fathers in these tragedies and were forced into homelessness.
The earthquake of 2010 left Haiti with even more orphaned children, many handicap and crippled Haitians who have now made their way to La Gonave. We founded this Association with the purpose to help the handicapped and orphans who are currently living in society without the emotional or financial support of their late family and friends.
We believe that all organizations and all institutions that are working toward and wishing for a new rebuild of La Gonave should give a special thought to helping the disabled and orphans as well. This way, together we could rebuild a better environment for everyone.
It is our dream that one day beautiful La Gonave will be reforested, every community will have a clean water supply, all children will have the opportunity to go to school, and there will be no more hunger, malnutrition and associated diseases.
