ELDERLY & DISABLED

In the town of Anse-a-Galets there is a small collection of buildings known locally as the Poor House. The buildings are in a state of disrepair and the living conditions are dreadful – dirty, poor sanitation, no water, no kitchen and the few basic beds there are damaged. There are around 20 occupants – handicapped (physically or mentally) adults and frail elderly. These people have no families to care for them and are at the mercy of the community for their basic needs. They suffer from malnutrition, diarrhoea from unclean water and poor sanitation, medical health problems and there is no care available for those suffering from mental illnesses. They are also very vulnerable to theft as the Poor House has no security wall or security personel for protection. ASHOG (a Haitian charity, Association for the Handicapped People and Orphans of La Gonave – www.helashog-haiti.org) has tried very hard to raise awareness and get aid from foreign workers or volunteers for the Poor House. They have no sponsor or aid at present (or in the past) apart from a monthly donation of food from HaitiHelp and very occasional monetary donations from organizations such as LGCCA. There is no funding from the Haitian government for the destitute people of Haiti. With the support of the community we organize for them 2 parties of year. One in the Chrismas time and the second at parc time.

FOOD & SUSTAINABILITY

We give people in our community chickens or goats to help sustain themselves.
We have a large chicken coop that helps sustain our children’s home thanks to our partnership with HaitiHelp, Scotland.

We have a chicken coop! That’s right, a fun and sustainable farm with the soul purpose of providing the children with fresh organic eggs. The kids are involved in raising the chickens as well. We would love to in the near future expand our farm and eventually be able to provide chickens to the whole community.

MEDICAL CARE

The handicapped and crippled residents of Haiti are exposed to such precarious conditions everyday. Many of them cannot afford drinking water or food, making it harder to promote adequate health standards. Just like the children, they do not have a safety net to fall back on and ASHOG exists to be exactly that, a solid support system for them. The medical crew’s objective is to raise awareness in communities without medical access. We educate them about illnesses, diseases, and prevention methods on how to avoid those things. ASHOG’s ultimate goal is to ensure that the Haitian people in need thrive.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact one of our recruiting leaders, they will be thrilled to guide you through this inspiring project.

Part of our mission is to medically aid the people of La Gonave. One of our ways of doing so is through dental service. Our team’s professional dentist Dr. Rick Lines along with a group of volunteers work to educate the patients on oral hygiene, and when necessary, perform dental procedures on them as well.

At the invitation of ASHOG and with their assistance, we ran our first week of Outreach clinics in remote areas on La Gonave Island, Haiti. Over 4 days we visited Roche Campe, Bwa Boule, Chen Kontan and Morne Augustin. We treated more than 100 patients per day and distributed de-worming medicines and multivitamins to scores more children. At each place the need for medical care was overwhelming. Malnutrition, unsafe drinking water and poor living conditions were at the root of many of the medical problems we saw.

COMMUNITY TRAINING CENTER

First, know that our mission is to Glorify God and to do right by our extended family within the Christian community through the power of the Holy Spirit given us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our initial plan is simple. First house missionaries in country, and providing them with everything they need to accomplish their respective goals. Everything from shelter, laundry service, utilities, food, medical care, transportation, and supplies will be provided at a much lower rate than if they were to go it alone.

By approaching it this way, we will be able to create supply routes where there were none, and recognize areas of greatest need. Our information will be available for all to see, and this will introduce structure for missionaries to better fulfill their respective calling.

All revenue raised will be spent on hiring locals for various jobs, purchasing fuel for transportation, and building materials and supplies in addition to medical equipment for the on site clinic. We will have medical personnel on the payroll as well as general and specialized labor from within the local areas. This will help boost the local economy and improve the lives and wellbeing of those living there.

PAST PROJECTS

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BUFFET

The ASHOG Minisitries team is invested in aiding La Gonave’s community. Our impact is greatly appreciated and truly makes a difference in their everyday lives. In this video you will see preparations for the ASHOG's annual Christmas Buffet. This is an event where our team, along with locals, prepare an immense amount of delicious food and distribute it to the community as a demonstration of support and love on such a special holiday.
We are always in need of volunteers, so if this cause speaks to you in any way please contact our team so we can arrange ways that you can help the people of La Gonave.

HOUSING PROJECT

In the videos above you will see our housing projects.
To the left we have the previous orphanage, which we can no longer continue to afford. Total costs were coming up to USD$4,000.00 and our NGO simply wasn’t receiving enough funding to support that. However, this setback revealed to us a necessary change and we are now organizing a project which will allow us to build the children their very own new home, which you can also see in the second video.
